The Nest
We are a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, offering an alternative approach to support primary-age children in KS1 and KS2. At full capacity, we will be able to offer 14 spaces to children in KS1 and KS2 with an EHCP that names SEMH as their primary area of need. The Nest offers a nurturing, attachment and trauma-friendly space and enables children to access a bespoke curriculum in a smaller learning environment. We take a therapeutic approach to relationships and curriculum, supporting children to overcome barriers and enjoy success, both emotionally and academically.
All children attending The Nest are on roll at St John’s Primary School. They are supported to access elements of mainstream, and will spend the rest of their time in The Nest. This will look different for every child, but could include:
- Spending breaktimes and/or lunchtimes with peers in main school
- Attending specific subject lessons e.g. PE, Maths, Art
- Taking part in whole school events, such as community planting or Sports Day
Our opening times are slightly shorter than main school, with children attending between 9am and 3pm to avoid congestion of the school grounds and nearby roads.
We believe strongly that the partnership between St John’s and The Nest is beneficial to all children, and helps our school community maintain and grow our inclusive ethos.
Staff in The Nest:
- Miss Hunt – Lead Teacher
- Mrs Radu – Learning Support Assistant
- Mr Burnell – Sports Coach (mornings only)
- Mrs Foley and Mr Mahendran – Pastoral Mentors (lunchtimes only)
This team will be overseen by the Senior Leadership Team, with Mrs Wilson as SENDCo and Strategic Lead.
How to find us:
We hope that in September 2026, building work will have been completed on our purpose-built space, which will be located near the current Y6 classrooms. In the meantime, we are opening in a temporary space which can be accessed through the school car park and along the right hand side of the school.
Our opening times are slightly shorter than main school, with children attending between 9am and 3pm to avoid congestion of the school grounds and nearby roads.
