Music
At St John’s Primary School, we believe music is a vital and joyful part of every child’s education. Our intent is to provide all pupils with a rich and inclusive music curriculum that nurtures creativity, expression, and a lifelong love of music. Through the Kapow scheme of work, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to explore and develop musical skills and knowledge in listening, evaluating, creating sounds, notation, improvising, composing and performing. Children will gain an understanding of the historical and cultural context of the music they encounter.
Our music curriculum is designed to be fully inclusive and accessible, allowing children of all backgrounds and abilities to experience success. We aim to develop key transferable skills including teamwork, leadership, creative thinking, problem solving, decision making and presentation and performance abilities.

Musical Experience
At St John’s, music is for everyone! Students can take individual lessons through Hot House Music, learning instruments with specialist teachers, and everyone joins in our weekly singing assemblies, where the whole school comes together. Older students can take part in exciting opportunities like performing at Kenilworth Castle and Young Voices where they perform on a national stage. While throughout the year, students share their talents in Christmas plays, class assemblies, and special events.
